Through the Wire is a graphic memoir that illustrates the lyrics of twelve Kanye West songs to tell his story, from his decision to drop out of college to pursue his dreams in music, through his days spent folding chinos at the Gap while struggling at night to make a name as a producer, through the pivotal car accident that eventually set him on the course to stardom and the epiphany of realizing exactly who he had become.
Academy Award-nominated animator, cartoonist, and illustrator, Bill Plympton illustrates each of the songs in detail, his vision of Kanye’s world. The songs are annotated with explanations of the references in the songs, biographical components that illuminate the lyrics, and their meaning on a deeply personal level.
The result is a one-of-a-kind book that initially grabs you and stays with you forever. “Through The Wire” will see a release on November 9th, 2009 at select booksellers, although Amazon is now taking pre-orders.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers responded Monday afternoon to an attack on one of his friends, who was punched early Monday outside a downtown nightclub. James’ friend, Edward Givens, said Braylon Edwards punched him outside the View nightclub. Givens said the motive for the attack was Edwards’ jealousy of James.
This is what James said:
He’s (Givens) a good friend of mine. The situation is sensitive right now. But it is unfortunate. Hopefully my friend is doing well at this point.
It is unfortunate when something like this happens at someone’s work place. My friend, that is where he works, and it is unfortunate that it happened there.
I’ve never crossed paths with Braylon before but it seems like there is a little jealously going on with Braylon and me and my friends. I have no idea why. I’ve never said anything to Braylon at all. For him to do that I think is very childish. My friend is 130 pounds, seriously it is like hitting one of my kids or something like that. It doesn’t make sense but the right people will take care of it.
It hits home for me when I hear something like that at 7 a.m. in the morning when I get up for work.
I know how to handle myself as a professional athlete and I take care of my friends and my family. It is unfortunate that some guys don’t understand that. You are a role model to kids and you should carry yourself that way on and off the field. And I carry that. I’m not going to do anything to jeopardize myself or my family. I’m one of the guys that look at being a professional athlete at more than just being out on the court.
